another powerhouse, this german company’s roots can be traced to 1880, initially manufacturing oil and petroleum lamps. from c. 1905 the company also manufactured electrical light fixtures. by 1913, it was one of the largest german luminaire factories, employing some 600 people. in the mid 1920’s, bünte & remmler collaborated with among others christian dell and wilhelm wagenfeld. extensive destruction of the site and buildings during world war 2 put a rather abrupt end to proceedings. in 1950 however, the reconstruction and modernisation of the factory buildings in frankfurt was completed.
bünte & remmler realised several designs by christian dell after 1932, when rondella beleuchtungsfabrik (rb) went bankrupt. rb had been, from c. 1926 to 1931 the manufacturer of the rondella lamp range.
bünte & remmler was also responsible for the goethe lamp from c. 1930/31. there were a number of versions, a table lamp, a 2-shade version (doppelpult) and a floor lamp with goethe lamp shade.
in 1930, bünte & remmler also realised the famous wilhelm wagenfeld at the werkbund exhibition in paris.
