founded in 1883, asea was a swedish powerhouse in the field of electrical engineering with headquarters in västerås. it was mainly concerned with systems and products for generating, transmitting and use of electricity for industrial companies. trains, trams and electric locomotives were among the products being developed and made.
starting in 1911 however, asea entered the market for smaller electrical products through their ‘im’ section. ‘im’, short for installationsmaterial, dealt with all electrical products concerned for the home and offices. one of the first major catalogs with suchlike products was printed in 1920, but the 1927 and 1928 catalogs with distinct focus on light fixtures are among the most voluminous in sweden. while the company was a wholesaler for lightbulbs (which were made by osram, philips and skandia, and some light fixtures (such as the siemens luzette, the disco lamps by dr. ing schneider among others), the company did patent their own light fixture, the viktoria model from 1925.
john eklund has meticulously described the sizes and logo of this beautiful light here: https://elmuseum.se/. already in 1927, some changes were made to the glass holder. how long it was in production for is not known.
asea also had its own department for in-house production, marketing and sales for light fixtures between 1947 and 1968 called ‘asea belysning’.
